Our First House

Earlier this week I wrote about some of the things that make my house feel like home.
Today I thought I would share similar thoughts on our first house. This isn't our first home but it was the first house.

This sweet house was about 1,000 square feet, which was perfect. We didn't need anything bigger. There is something to be said for a "just right size" home.

We moved into this house about a year after we got married. This is before digital photography. *How did we manage?* Seriously, photos from back in the day are scarce. Cameras used actual film. We had to use the entire roll of film before developing the pics.

Looking back on this house I am trying to remember when it became "home". This house actually felt like ours as soon as the boxes were unpacked.

We also put a lot of sweat into our home. This was our first yard. We set out to make it an amazing yard. We were definite newbies and crazy zealous! We wanted to transform the lawn into a lush green carpet and we began with a fertilizer spreader and way too much fertilizer. When I say too much I don't mean that it burned the grass...I mean the grass grew fast and thick. It was beautiful but we had to mow like every other day. Live and learn.
We also put in our own flower and herb garden. It was a crazy lot of work but one of the most rewarding. I planted impatiens, which did beautifully and grew parsley and chives and lavender.

My Dad built our fence, which framed our home nicely, and Jordan built the log borders around the shrubs. We happily poured out our heart into our landscape.
