There is not a day that goes by that I don't look around my apartment and say "I love this place." We've been in our place for a little over a year and have zero desire to consider leaving. We enjoyed the home we had before and I enjoy looking back at the photos of how we made that house our home.
It may seem odd selling a house (3 bedrooms, plus loft and a bonus room) and moving to an apartment of less than 1,000 square feet. But, as a friend of mine said, it's sort of the circle of life. We loved our house. We loved making it ours. We loved hosting gatherings and the other things having a large space allows.
In fact, while we were living there I don't think a day went by that we didn't say "I love this place."
Here's the "but"...But, one day we felt we couldn't justify paying for a house that was so much bigger than we need. ~Our daughter is grown, so it's not like we need extra space for a young woman. If she were not on her own we may not have been ready to sell when we were.
But this post isn't about the house we left. This post is about our apartment and why it feels right for us. When we realized we wanted to downsize, we had to figure out what that would look like.
We had downsized once before and actually never expected to be in a house again. But we were living in Bellevue, WA and had transitioned into an urban kind of highrise life, which is a little different. Back in NC, urban life isn't the same. It's there...and getting better, but I'm not sure it works for us.
Being the hip couple that we are, we started our search online. This place had some awesome pics and I knew Jordan and I had to go see this place.

The place has a Craftsman, mountain lodge look and feel. That is something we have always loved. The look makes us feel nostalgic for our time living the Pacific Northwest.

We are lucky that we get lots of blue sky days here. This is a pic I took from my porch on one such lovely day. It was spring...but I wanted to show you that the marketing photos weren't false advertising. The building to the left is the clubhouse from the back. The photo from the apartment website is from the front.
This is our kitchen. We've changed some of the things to the left of the refrigerator, but you get the idea. I'll have to take some more recent pics with magnets on the fridge.
The space feels perfect to us. It is definitely not too small. I wanted to give you a flavor of our place. Just this week we added some things that make me incredibly happy. I will show you those things soon.
Hope you are having a great weekend.
Until Next Time,
~Kimberly
Thanks for sharing. I love looking at other people's homes, getting ideas. We've been living in the same place for eight years and I still haven't figured out what I want to do with it :o
ReplyDeleteI'm like you...I love to see other people's homes too. Plus, I'm a sucker for open houses and model homes. I also like reading about places people live. I've enjoyed your blog...and your trip to Iceland. :)
