Relationship Philosophy and a Fortune Cookie

He's a handsome guy...right? That is the Hubs. How funny is he as he hides behind his coffee cup? I'm sharing these pics and quips about the Hubs because I realize he is often mentioned, but rarely shown here on this blog.

Many people would say that the Hubs and I are opposites. I'm never sure if that's actually true. I know the adage "opposites attract" but is it really true? Is the spark of opposites sustainable for a long and happy relationship?

Hubs and I have been together for more than half my life. And we still enjoy each other and make each other laugh. We are lucky that we chose each other. Lucky that we have a similar sense of humor and enjoy so many of the same things. We genuinely enjoy just being together.

On the surface, Hubs and I are different. We tend to relate to social situations differently. He's fairly quiet and conservative in his interactions with others. I'm typically talkative and laugh a lot {and loudly}. These differences are what people see when they look at us as a couple which leads to the analysis that we are opposites. 

I gotta say, though, I don't think we are truly opposites. In fact, we are probably more similar than different. Who knows what makes a relationship work? I suppose it doesn't matter exactly what makes it "work"...as long as it does. 

Since this post seems a little philosophical, I thought I would share Hubs most recent fortune from his last fortune cookie.

One more day before...FRIDAY!! It doesn't get much better. 

Promises of Fall

Sometimes I get the Sunday Blues. I don't know if I've written about this before.  I don't really know what causes it.  I suppose it's knowing that my weekend is almost over.  My time that  I feel the most like me is coming to a close. I often feel that I didn't squeeze every drop of potential out of my weekend.
On Sunday evenings,  I begin to feel blue that my time is almost up. 
I remember getting the Sunday blues even when I was in grade school. Almost like a let down after birthday presents have been opened at a birthday party. The feeling that the party is almost over and it's almost time to go home.
I'm writing this on a Sunday early evening...but the good news is right this very minute I do not have the blues. I'm sitting here sort of holding my breath and thinking "How about that. No blues." And I wonder why that is. Why no blues? Perhaps it is because I feel completely relaxed at this very moment. Completely at peace with the fact that I did everything I wanted to do and nothing I didn't want to do. {Emphasis on nothing I didn't want to do...maybe?} I did not do any chores...not that I really ever do chores...I have the best Hubby in the world that shoulders so many of the chores that I don't enjoy.  Another wonderful thing about this day is the weather and the sounds of nature just outside my window. Yesterday was lovely too. A blue sky day. Breezy with the fresh feeling cooling weather. Delightful. I spent quite a lot of time out in the Sun Room with the windows open watching birds at our feeders while I played with my own birds. 
I can only guess that there are no blues today because I am completely and blissfully happy in THIS very moment. I content. I am loving the promise of Fall.

Simply My Opinion

So, I read Erin's {Living in Yellow}"In My Humble Opinion" and loved it. Her post title is clever but not to be confused with my post (here) which is Simply My Opinion. {They are similar but different. I am no copycat.} [Side note: sometimes I do copy my daughter. But that is just doing something very very similarly (like buying the same boots or something), it's not actually copying.
I decided to write my own list of opinions. I'll link up too. See how that works. Erin told someone & I'm telling someone and if you tell someone it will grow geometrically. {Like that shampoo commercial where everyone tells their friends and "and so on and so on..."} So, here goes. My list of opinions...or as I like to call them: FACTS. 1.  I have begun way too many sentences with the word "so". I think that is a grammar violation.  2.  I'm fine with that. 3.  It is perfectly acceptable to layer a pastel pink top with a red sweatshirt jacket and again with a hot pink {fuchsia?} down filled vest. In fact, it is a fashion DO. 4.  # 3 above is true even if you have red (or strawberry blond) hair. 5.  Cats are cool.  6.  Dogs are too. 7.  So are birds...both wild and tame. 8.  Rabbits are too cute for words. But a little scary as pets. (They growl and have teeth and act like they are going to bite.)  9.  There is no such thing as "too much of a good thing". 10. Any amount of a bad thing is "too much of a bad thing". 11. All web applications should be intuitive. (I'm talking to you facebook. I used to understand...now I don't.) 12. TV commercials are way too loud. (Maybe that's because they know we're really going to the loo and need to hear when they are over.) 13. Scary movies and scary TV shows should not show scary commercials. I don't go see scary movies for a reason! I definitely don't want to have to see the scary commercial. 14. Sitcoms should not have laugh tracks. Really. I think we all know if it's funny or not. Please stop trying to tell us it's funny. 15. Almost every TV show goes on for at least one season too long. --Except for Frasier. Somehow that one worked.   Okay dokey.  Hopefully, these fun facts aren't too controversial. D's Walks for Cancer Awareness

Isn't this just the cutest picture That's my mother wearing the hat and gloves. It makes me happy just looking at the lovely green dress and jacket.

My two sisters and I are with Mom taking our Easter morning picture.  (Dad is behind the camera.) I talk about my sisters quite a lot. We are very close in age. I'm the redhead on the far right. Sis is on the left and Sissy is in the chair. {Aren't we just too cute for words?}

Jump ahead many years...and there I am with a daughter of my own. (Cute, right?) Sometimes Daughter reminds me so much of Sissy. They have very similar points of view. Somehow, they see things the same way and express themselves very similarly. 

Many, many happy memories of hanging out with sisters as well as cousins growing up. That's one of the neat things about growing up walking distance from where your parents grew up. 

Hubs and I weren't the "stay in your hometown" kind of couple when we got married and started making a life. So, until two years ago, we never lived in the same town I grew up in. We enjoyed our "big city" lives we built.
We are also enjoying being "home" now.

All of this is to tell you that today I'm feeling quite happy to be living so close family. So many happy moments include Daughter and my sisters as well as cousins and Mamacita.

You may remember I talked about Danielle (aka Daughter) signing us up for the Ovarian Cancer Awareness walk (last year).  Well, this year we are participating in the Avon Breast Cancer Awareness walk. This walk takes place in several cities at different times of the year. Our walk is in NC and takes place in October. Let me clarify. Danielle is WALKING.  I am part of the CREW. 

Both Danielle and I are passionate about supporting cancer awareness and fundraising. So many people are touched by cancer. Luckily, more and more people are able to survive and live full lives. I believe that is a testament to the advances made by research. We lost our mother to cancer (Ovarian). She was much too young. I have a friend that is a breast cancer survivor. My daughter works for a surgeon and sees many breast cancer survivors as part of her job. 

So, next month, just 48 days from now...Daughter & I will be wearing pink. She will be walking 39 miles. I will be doing whatever is required to support the effort. And, we will both be sleeping in a pink tent.

Any cancer is horrific. I firmly believe that when we support research and awareness for one type of cancer, we are vicariously supporting research and awareness for all cancers. Random Recommendations

Happy Weekend! I thought I would share some of my recommendations for fun things. If you want to see a funny movie.  (And I mean really funny.  So funny we still laughed the next day).  Go see Hit & Run. Dax Shepard wrote and starred in this film. I didn't really know who he was until he was on Conan telling us what a kick a$$ movie this is. So, the next night...I had to go. It also stars his fiance, Kristen Bell.  And, oh, Tom Arnold KILLS! Don't read any reviews. Try not to see any trailers. Just go into this movie completely cold and you will come out so happy.  **I hope you tell me if you liked it.**
